Data backup

Backups are not an end in themselves. What matters is how quickly and completely you can work again after an outage.

  • 3-2-1several copies, separate media
  • RPO/RTOdefined recovery targets
  • Testedrecovery is rehearsed

Can you afford to lose your data?

The loss of data usually causes considerable financial damage – and in many cases the data cannot be reconstructed. ERP, accounting, CAD data, email: each application has a different recovery requirement.

That is why a backup concept does not start with software, but with the question: what may be unavailable for how long? From that follow backup intervals, retention and technology.

What a good concept includes

  • Definition of RPO (maximum data loss) and RTO (maximum downtime)
  • Daily backup to a second medium
  • Regular offsite copy or second data centre
  • Protection of the backup against encryption and deletion
  • Documented and tested recovery process

Local backup

Fast recovery in daily business – on NAS or a dedicated backup system.

Offsite copy

A copy outside the site protects against theft, fire and water.

Immutable

Immutable backups cannot be encrypted or deleted by attackers.

Restore test

We regularly test whether backups can actually be restored.

Reality

A backup without a test is an assumption

We restore selected systems on a test basis at regular intervals and document the result.
