HTTPS is the standard
Without an SSL certificate the browser shows a warning, search engines rank the site lower and forms should not be submitted at all. For every business website an encrypted connection is mandatory today.
For most sites a domain-validated certificate is sufficient – often even free via Let's Encrypt. When customers should verify the provider's identity before buying, extended validation certificates make sense.
